A person wanted for chit-fund fraud was crushed by a speeding truck

CHENNAI: A 45-year-old man, who was allegedly absconding after defrauding several people of money through chit funds, died in a road accident while attempting to cross the road in Vanagaram on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as S Ganesan, 45, of Pillaiyar Koil Street, Saidapet, who ran a grocery shop in the area. Police said that Ganesan is running Diwali chit fund.

His body was shifted to Kilpauk Government College and Hospital for post-mortem.

Since the Koyambedu traffic police had registered the case and were unable to identify the body, they identified it after learning from the complaint lodged by his family, which stated that Ganesan was missing.

After preliminary investigation, the police said that Ganesan had collected at least Rs 2 crore from several people for the Diwali chit fund and did not return the money. He was missing from his home for the last few days.
