Absconding police officer arrested for torturing minor girl in police station
Guwahati (IANS). An Assam police officer, who allegedly harassed a girl inside a police station and was on the run since June 26, was arrested from the Guwahati railway station on Thursday.
Accused officer Biman Roy is accused of taking obscene pictures of a teenager in the police station. The victim was taken into custody at Ghograpar police station in Nalbari. The incident came to light on 26 June.
Roy was reportedly found unconscious at the Guwahati railway station. He was taken to the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
GMCH Superintendent Abhijeet Sarma said, “An unidentified person was taken to GMCH. The patient had low Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS).”
Sarma further said, “She is being treated. Doctors say she has food poisoning. Her GCS is still low. However, other than that she is fine. One of her family members is with her now.” He has been identified as Biman Roy.”
The incident first came to light on June 26 when a minor girl complained to the police about Biman Roy, the then in-charge of Ghograpar police station. The girl alleged that the officer took obscene pictures of her and humiliated her in front of other officials inside the jail.
On June 21, the victim girl allegedly eloped with her boyfriend, but they were caught by the police and taken to Ghograpar police station. That evening both of them were kept in jail.
The girl said in her complaint, “The SI forced me to take off my clothes, but I refused. Then he threatened me. I took off my clothes out of fear. The SI took my naked picture and started harassing me. tried.” In the morning, I informed a lady police officer about the incident, but she told me to keep quiet.
Following the complaint, Assam DGP G.P. Singh warned of strict action against accused Roy and dismissed the accused officer from service.
Singh wrote on Twitter: “In my understanding this is the rarest of rare case, and therefore as Director General of Assam Police and head of the police force, and as per existing law and rules, I have dismissed Inspector (UB) Biman Roy in Assam Police.” have decided to do.”
