Achievements in Games and Khelo India honored
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma honored the sporting achievements of Meghalaya Games 2024 and Khelo India Youth Games 2024 during a felicitation ceremony held at U Soso Tham Auditorium in Shillong on February 5. The event was attended by Health and Family Welfare Minister Amparain Lyngdoh and Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Shakliyar Warjari.
During the felicitation, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma congratulated the achievers, stressing the need to celebrate and appreciate the achievements made for the state. He highlighted the importance of the week-long festival dedicated to youth in sports, entrepreneurship, music and various other activities.
Aiming to portray the youth as icons and inspirations, the Chief Minister stressed that their role ranges from winning medals or receiving awards to becoming role models to emulate. He said, “I want to tell the youth who have come here today that you have an important and responsible role and it is not just about winning medals or getting awards but about being exemplary and role models.”
Expressing his gratitude to MSOA, various sports associations and the Sports Department for their contribution in the success of the Meghalaya Games, Chief Minister Sangma acknowledged the challenges faced every year and the continuous efforts to improve the Games. He especially congratulated the football team for their victory in the Khelo India Youth Games and lauded them for making the state proud.
Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Shakliyar Warjari reminded the athletes to use the cash awards wisely to further enhance their skills and talents in their respective sports. He acknowledged the hard work of the athletes and emphasized that winning medals is not the end but a step towards achieving new heights for the future of the state.
He said, “As a government we acknowledge the hard work done by you to win medals, but this is not the end, the aim is to achieve greater heights because you are the future of our state.”
The ceremony concluded with the distribution of cash prizes to the medal winners in various disciplines by the dignitaries.
