Activists demand action against illegal mining in Mayurbhanj

Baripada: Members of Odisha Durniti Nivaran Manch in Mayurbhanj met District Collector Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde on Tuesday and urged for immediate and strict action against illegal mining of sand, morum, stone and quartz in various areas of the district.

He alleged that despite repeated appeals, no action was taken as there was nexus between local officials and mining mafias, resulting in huge revenue loss to the government.
He accused sub-collectors, mining officials, forest department officials and local tehsildars of negligence in curbing illegal mining activities. When contacted, the Collector assured to look into the matter.
