Activists urge government to protect child rights with key policies
Chennai: Tamil Nadu Child Rights Watch (TNCRW) has called on the Tamil Nadu government to prioritize and protect the rights of children while quickly implementing key initiatives.
In a fervent appeal, TNCRW members lauded the progress but underlined the imperative of prompt action in implementing the Tamil Nadu State Policy 2021 for the Rights of the Child.
Emphasizing the need for comprehensive measures, TNCRW urged to integrate child budget analysis as a regular exercise to ensure transparency and effective allocation of resources for the betterment of children.
The call extends to transforming every school into a child-friendly environment, advocating for one teacher in every classroom and instituting a comprehensive child protection policy.
Additionally, inclusive education, addressing second generation challenges such as drug dependency and teenage pregnancy, and expeditious filling of vacancies in the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) were stated to be of paramount importance in the letter written by TNCRW to the government.
The organization rallied citizens to join them in sowing the seeds for a future where children’s rights are an integral part of TN’s social fabric, and stressed that the time for action is now.
“The grand appeal is clear: Create a state where every child feels safe, heard, and valued,” the letter said.
