Actor Devan appointed vice president of BJP’s Kerala unit
Thiruvananthapuram: Film actor Devan has been appointed vice president of the Kerala unit of BJP. State President K Surendran announced this through a Facebook post.
Devan, who formed a party named ‘Navkerala People’s Party’, eventually merged with the BJP. He contested the first two elections but had to taste defeat in both. It was earlier announced that he would contest the 2021 assembly elections without any outside support.
This merger took place at the end of the Vijay Yatra led by Surendran. Union Home Minister Amit Shah included Devan and his party in BJP. At that time Devan had said that Navkerala People’s Party is his daughter whom he has raised for 17 years.
During the party’s merger with the BJP, Devan said that when he realized why Kerala was underdeveloped, he said goodbye to his parent party Congress and subsequently formed the Navakerala People’s Party in 2004.
