Adilabad: Adilabad has now become a stronghold of BJP in Telangana

Adilabad: The Adilabad parliamentary constituency, once a stronghold of the Congress, TDP and later the BRS, has now become a BJP stronghold, where the party now has one MP and four MLAs. The constituency, reserved for scheduled tribes, has seen elections 19 times since the creation of the district in 1952. The Congress won eight times, while the TDP won six times. The BRS has won twice, while the first elections in the constituency were won by the Samajwadi Party candidate. The BJP registered its first win in 2019 through Soyam Bapu Rao. Now it has retained the constituency with Godam Nagesh.

The party leaders attribute the win to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s campaign in the district, while Nagesh had promised to revive the CCI unit, a railway line between Nirmal and Armoor and address the major challenges of the district if elected. The BJP also relied on the support of its four MLAs representing Adilabad, Mudhol, Nirmal and Sirpur (Tee) constituencies. It ensured that the four MLAs worked together for Nagesh’s victory and also took steps to prevent infighting among MLAs and leaders, which has also yielded results. The party was successful in gaining electoral support not only in the four assembly constituencies represented by its MLAs but also in the remaining three constituencies. The BJP’s vote share has increased from 12 per cent in the Assembly elections-2018 to 36 per cent in the 2023 elections.
