Adilabad: Farmers of Nirmal happy with heavy rains, agricultural work picks up pace
Adilabad: Parts of Nirmal district received heavy rains on Tuesday, bringing cheers to farmers who have been waiting for rains for over three weeks. According to the weather report on the Telangana Development Scheme Society website, the district recorded an average actual rainfall of 34.3 mm, while Basar mandal received the highest rainfall of 96.6 mm. Against the normal rainfall of 308.8 from June 1 to July 16, 331 mm rainfall was recorded, which is 7 per cent more. Out of the total 19 mandals, 13 mandals received normal rainfall, while five mandals received 20 to 36 per cent more rainfall.
Khanpur and Bhainsa are still grappling with about 20 per cent less rainfall. However, farmers sowing paddy, jowar, maize, soya and cotton crops expressed happiness over the rains. Similarly, Adilabad district recorded an average actual rainfall of 13 mm. It recorded 391.6 mm of rain against the normal rainfall of 353 mm, which is 11 per cent more. Kumram Bheem Asifabad district received 341 mm rainfall against the normal 347 mm, a marginal deficit of 2 per cent. Meanwhile, Mancherial received 251.4 mm rainfall against the normal rainfall of 317 mm, a deficit of 21 per cent. Growers of paddy, red gram, maize, jowar, soya and other crops are very worried over the scanty rainfall. They said they will suffer losses in agriculture if the drought continues for two more weeks in the district.
