Afghanistan Embassy in India closed from today,
New Delhi: The Afghanistan Embassy in India has announced that it is closing its operations from October 1. For this, Afghanistan has cited lack of support from the Indian government in fulfilling its interests. In a statement on 30 September, the Afghan Embassy also said that the decision was taken due to a shortage in personnel and resources. “It is with great sadness, regret and disappointment that the Embassy of Afghanistan in New Delhi announces this decision to close its operations,” the statement said. The embassy said that this decision, while extremely regrettable, has been taken after careful consideration keeping in mind the historical relations and long-term partnership between Afghanistan and India.
It also noted several key factors affecting the ability to effectively continue the mission and said they were the primary reasons for the “unfortunate termination”. The embassy noted the lack of support from the Government of India and said this has hindered their ability to carry out duties effectively. The mission also cited failure to meet expectations in serving Afghanistan’s interests as a reason. It said, “We acknowledge our shortcomings in meeting the expectations and requirements necessary to serve the best interests of Afghanistan and its citizens due to the lack of diplomatic support in India and the absence of a legitimate functioning government in Kabul. “
