After clash with farmers in Rajasansi, BJP held rallies without any disruption

Punjab: Although BJP’s Taranjit Singh Sandhu faced opposition on a few occasions while campaigning in rural areas, today he successfully held two public rallies in Majitha and Attari constituencies without any disruption.

On 6 April he faced opposition in Ajnala village and on 15 May in Rajasansi. There are some areas in the district where some cadres of the Kisan Union are present in good numbers or some influential local leaders are present to counter the BJP candidate. Otherwise it seems that the farming community has no enmity with any particular candidate. Farmer union leaders claimed that most of the times farm laborers or non-agricultural communities organized BJP programs in rural areas. He said farmer leaders did not want to get involved in “caste politics” in villages, which could benefit the BJP.

Meanwhile, the district election office asked the official machinery to provide level playing field to all the candidates by preventing disruption of political functions by farmer groups. BJP’s public meetings are being held under the supervision of heavy police force. Despite the deployment of police personnel, members of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha came close to the rally venue of BJP candidate Taranjit Singh Sandhu at Bhindi Saidan village near Rajasansi on Wednesday. However, the police present at the venue managed to stop the farmers from going to the rally pandal. With a 15 feet wide road between them, BJP leaders and farmers organized their own programmes.

Sandhu said that there were vested forces behind these protests. He said that actual farmers were not part of these protests. He said that BJP has brought other schemes for farmers including Kisan Samman Nidhi.
He said that some elements are trying to help other political parties in the elections by defaming the BJP. Sandhu said he would continue to reach out to different sections of the society. Sandhu said he meets genuine farmers every day, who appreciate the Modi government’s efforts to increase their income.

Farmer union workers claimed that they do not want any conflict with the BJP, but its leaders have been accused of killing farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri, barricading the borders to stop farmers from reaching Delhi, use of tear gas shells and pellets. Want to raise questions on issues. Guns on farmers and brutal use of force on peaceful protesters.
Jatinder Singh Chinna of Kirti Kisan Union said, “What is wrong if we come to the BJP rally site? We could have asked Sandhu questions related to our issues. No party has violated the Constitution more than BJP. Farmers will continue to ask questions to BJP candidates. “Action will continue against the saffron party candidates.”
