After Uttar Pradesh Maharashtra Orders Cancellation Of Aadhaar Based Birth Certificates

The Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra governments have taken a key decision. The states have said that Aadhaar cards will not be accepted as proof for issuing birth certificates. The birth certificate is not attached to the Aadhaar card and is not considered as a birth certificate, the UP Planning Department said in a statement on Friday. Aadhaar card is not accepted as a birth certificate or as a proof of date of birth, said Special Secretary, Planning Department Amit Singh Bansal.
The Maharashtra government has also issued similar orders. The government has said that Aadhaar card will not be accepted as a document for issuing birth certificates. The Maharashtra government has announced that birth certificates registered on the basis of Aadhaar card will be cancelled after the enactment of the Births and Deaths Registration Amendment Act, 2023. The Maharashtra government said that this decision has been taken to prevent the illegal issuance of fake birth and death certificates.
Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has said that all certificates issued suspiciously using Aadhaar cards are being cancelled. He said that action has been taken against officers who have issued fake birth certificates so far.
