Agra: Dalit woman raped, brutally murdered by police

Agra: A 25-year-old Dalit woman was allegedly raped and strangulated by an agent of Uttar Pradesh Police posted in Agra, police said here on Tuesday. He told that on December 29, the police found the woman’s body hanging from the ceiling of the rented room. According to the police, the woman had gone to the room rented by the agent in Agra a day before the incident. Chhata Deputy Police Commissioner (ACP) RK Singh said, “Raghavendra Singh (27), a police agent posted in Agra, has been arrested for the murder of a 25-year-old woman, who was found dead in her rented accommodation.” , “…at Belanganj, under the limits of Umbrella Police Commissionerate in Agra city”. Agra Police has registered a case against the agent under sections 306, 376 of IPC and SC/ST Act. The post mortem report revealed that the cause of death was torture. “Agent Raghavendra Singh is originally from Jhansi and lives in a rented house in Belanganj. Both of them knew each other already. The girl was working at a renal center in Gurugram”, said RK Singh. The officer said that on the day of the incident, Singh had reached his office but left early. Later he informed his colleagues about the incident. He was arrested on Sunday following a complaint by the woman’s family. According to his brother, both of them had received training at the hospital in Jhansi and had been in touch ever since. “We also went to Raghavendra Singh’s house, but his family rejected our marriage proposal. But he was in touch with my sister”, he said.
