Akal Takht Jathedar: Sandeep Singh Sunny’s lawyers are being pressured

Punjab: Acting Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj claimed here on Wednesday that the Ghuman brothers, GPS Ghuman and GS Ghuman, lawyers representing Amritsar’s Sandeep Singh alias Sunny, lodged in Sangrur jail, were being “directly or indirectly pressured.” Sandeep Singh is the main accused in the November 2022 broad daylight murder of Shiv Sena leader Sudhir Suri in Amritsar. On September 10, he attacked three former policemen inside Patiala jail, killing one and injuring two.
Jathedar Gargaj stressed that Sandeep Singh has every right to seek legal assistance from any lawyer of his choice to defend himself in any legal proceedings initiated against him. He further stated that the pressure being exerted on the Ghuman brothers appears to be part of a government policy that is neither just nor fair. He alleged that after Sandeep Singh was tortured by the jail and police authorities, he was initially denied a medical examination despite court orders. He also condemned the recent attack on Sikh lawyer Simarjeet Singh by some lawyers in the Punjab and Haryana High Court and demanded action against those responsible for the incident.
