AMRITSAR: Search operation conducted to check sale of synthetic kite strings
A three-hour long search operation was conducted in Baba Bakala markets here today to seize banned plastic strings. The campaign, launched ahead of the festival of Lohri and Makar Sankranti, was led by Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Amanpreet Singh and DSP Sukhwinderpal Singh. However, despite his efforts, no significant improvements occurred.
SDM Amanpreet Singh stressed the need to ban its use as well as run awareness campaigns about the ill effects of Chinese door. He said that a campaign is going on at the local level against Chinese doors, in which the head of the market association and other people are involved. He appealed to the public not to turn the celebration into a mourning ceremony by using deadly Chinese manjha during the kite flying festival. He said that many cases of damage to life and property have already been reported due to the use of plastic string and losses due to its use have also been observed.
“During festivals like Lohri and Basant, kite lovers, especially youth and children, use dangerous plastic strings to fly kites. The sharp and lethal wire has caused serious injuries to many persons, including death and damage to birds,” the SDM said.
