Andhra Pradesh: Two constables arrested for smuggling 22 kg of ganja
Hyderabad: Two Andhra Pradesh police constables were caught in Bachupally on Friday morning while allegedly carrying 22 kg of ganja from Machilipatnam in Krishna district.
The accused, identified as Head Constable Sagar Patnaik and Constable Srinivas of the 3rd Battalion of AP Special Police in Kakinada, were caught by the Balanagar Special Operations Team (SOT) during a routine investigation. The constables were found to be on medical leave when they allegedly decided to transport ganja for easy money.
Police suspect that the duo may have misused their police identity cards to bypass security checks at various interstate checkpoints on the Machilipatnam-Bachupalli route. It is estimated that he may have crossed at least 10 check posts without being detected before being caught in Telangana.
Meanwhile, the suppliers from whom the duo had purchased the ganja informed the constables that they would receive the contact information of the smugglers after reaching Bachupally. However, both of them were arrested before reaching the destination.
Investigation is underway to find out the source of the ganja, the extent of the duo’s involvement in the illegal trade and whether any other person was involved.
