Andhra: SC makes strong remarks in Andhra Pradesh liquor scam
Vijayawada: The Supreme Court on Thursday made strong observations in the Andhra Pradesh liquor scam case, describing main accused Kasireddy Rajasekhar Reddy as the “architect of the scam” and noting an alleged nexus between a section of officials and politicians.
A Division Bench headed by Justice Surya Kant heard a petition filed by the accused seeking regular bail in New Delhi. The court observed that the scam involved huge sums of money and could not have occurred without the support and collusion of officials.
Counsel for the petitioner argued that his client was only an adviser to the then government and sought bail on the grounds that he had been in jail for nearly 10 months and that several other accused in the case had already been granted bail.
However, when the court indicated its inclination to dismiss the bail plea, the petitioner’s counsel sought permission to withdraw the petition. The court allowed the withdrawal.
