Army Public School wins national debate competition
The Army Public School, Shillong was declared as the winner of the National Level AWES English Debate Competition 2023. The team was represented by Dhruv Sharma of XII Sc, Shaakshi Rai of XII Com and Subhodeep Dey of XI Sc. The topic for the Debate was “The use of Artificial Intelligence – a threat to employment opportunities or a driver of economic growth”. The competition was recently hosted by Army Public School at Dhaula Kuan, in New Delhi.
The championship involved a grueling competition among all the Army Public Schools of the country under different commands. Six command-level winners participated for the trophy.
Being the command level champion, APS Shillong represented Eastern Command at the national final. The teams who represented five other commands are APS Jabalpur II (Central Command), APS Devlali (Southern Command), APS Akhnoor (Northern Command), APS Ratnuchak (Western Command) and APS Ganganagar (South West Command).
Dhruv Sharma of APS Shillong was adjudged as the best speaker against the motion and Subhodeep Dey of APS Shillong was adjudged as the best interjector.
It was another feather in the cap of APS Shillong under the guidance of its principal, Rajeevan P.
The competition was a tremendous learning experience for the young debaters as it gave them an ideal platform to express their views and enhance their public speaking skills.
