Arunachal’s Meisom Singhi shines at 11th C’Wealth Karate Championship
Meisom Singhi, an ace Karate player from Runachal Pradesh, won gold and bronze medals at the 11th Commonwealth Karate Championships held in Durban, South Africa on November 30 and December 1.Singhi, an expert in Kata, won gold in the Commonwealth Cup and bronze in the Elite Championship category.
This was her third time participating in the Commonwealth Karate Championship.In 2018 and 2022, she had won gold and bronze in the 9th and 10th Commonwealth Karate Championships in South Africa and Birmingham, UK, respectively.She recently won a gold medal at the Moscow Universe Karate Competition of the Russian Karate Federation.One of the most difficult styles of Karate, Kata, demands that performers execute complex movement patterns with strength and precision. Through years of intense training, Singhi has become an expert in this difficult art form.
Singhi is currently practising in Hyderabad, and her recent wins have cemented her position as one of the most accomplished Karate competitors in the country. Besides this, Lance Naik Akumenla L. Imchen of the 15 IR Women Battalion also won a bronze medal at the 11th Commonwealth Karate Championships, which took place in Durban, South Africa from November 28 to December 1.With this remarkable achievement, she has become the first person from Nagaland to win a medal at an international Karate tournament, bringing honour to the state and the country.Her bronze medal win at the 8th South Asian Karate Championships earlier this year shows that Imchen has consistently shown remarkable commitment and talent throughout her career.
