ASI shoots self on duty

“Honorary Assistant Sub Inspector (HASI) Vijay Kumar tragically took his own life by allegedly shooting himself with his service rifle while on guard duty on Monday. The incident occurred at the Dhangu railway bridge, where he was posted under the Dhangupeer police chowki of Damtal police station in Nurpur. Vijay Kumar hailed from Tayoda in the Indora sub-division of Kangra district.

Reports suggest that Kumar’s service rifle was loaded with five cartridges at the time of the incident. A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory, led by Dr. Hitesh Patial, collected blood samples and other circumstantial evidence from the location.

Nurpur DSP Vishal Verma stated that inquest proceedings had been initiated under Section 174 of the CrPC (Code of Criminal Procedure), and the body was subsequently handed over to the grieving family after the completion of the post-mortem examination. DSP Verma also confirmed that an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident was currently underway.”
