Assam: Tragic Drowning Incidents Claim Lives of Two Youths

Assam: Tragedy struck in Assam as two separate incidents of drowning claimed the lives of young individuals. The first incident occurred in the village of Singoritol, located in Assam’s Sonari region. Durga Majhi, a youth in his prime, tragically lost his life after falling into a pond situated amidst a paddy field. The incident reportedly took place on Thursday, leaving the community in a state of shock and mourning.

Meanwhile, in another part of Assam, specifically Baksa district, a similar incident unfolded. A youth named Rafiqul Islam, residing in Alengamari, was swept away by the forceful floodwaters of the Beki River. The incident occurred in the village of Salbari and was a direct consequence of the incessant rainfall that had plagued the area. The strong water current proved overwhelming for Rafiqul, who was reported missing after being carried away by the relentless river flow.

In response to Rafiqul’s disappearance, local authorities, including the police department, initiated a collaborative effort alongside concerned community members. The aim was to launch a comprehensive search and rescue operation, ensuring no stone was left unturned in the quest to locate the missing youth.

Sadly, these were not the only incidents that took place during this period. On the 19th of June, two additional drowning incidents occurred in Assam, compounding the sense of sorrow and grief in the region. The first incident unfolded in Boko, situated in Kamrup district. While engaged in fishing activity, a young man named Manoj Rabha accidentally drowned in the Chirang River. It is believed that the strong water current, exacerbated by the relentless rains, played a significant role in this unfortunate incident.

Upon receiving information about the incident, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) promptly arrived at the scene and commenced rescue operations. Their primary objective was to locate Manoj Rabha and bring him back safely, offering hope to his distraught family and friends.

Simultaneously, in the Rupohi village of Jalah Tehsil, Baksa district, another young individual lost his life to the treacherous waters while engaged in a fishing endeavor. The youth, whose name was Alanbar Gayari, drowned on a fateful Sunday night. The community was left in despair as they engaged in an extensive search operation that stretched into Monday afternoon. Eventually, Alanbar’s lifeless body was discovered, further deepening the collective grief that had befallen the area.

These incidents serve as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by water bodies during times of heavy rainfall and flooding. The communities in Assam are grappling with the loss of these young lives, and efforts are being made to raise awareness about water safety and caution against venturing into risky areas during such precarious conditions. The local authorities, alongside disaster response teams, continue to work tirelessly to prevent further tragedies and ensure the safety of residents across the region.
