Astronomy can help us know the past: ISRO chief
Punjab: ISRO Chairman Dr S Somnath shared that India reached the Moon through Chandrayaan 3 not to prove something to the world, but to study the celestial rocks there. Indian minds are capable of making satellites and rockets. Although other countries also tried to reach the moon, India achieved a soft landing in an extraordinary manner. These views were expressed by ISRO Chairman Dr S Somnath, who was in the city to inaugurate the Horizon School of Excellence for students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. This school is a venture of the Nehru Siddhant Kendra Trust.
In his address to the students at Sat Paul Mittal School here, Dr. Somnath said that the future cannot be predicted, but the past of millions of years can be known through astronomy.
Inspiring the students, Somnath said that he wants at least one of them to aim to become a ‘Gagan Yatri’, to reach space to study, explore and share knowledge with the global community.
Somnath said ISRO is working on Chandrayaan 4 and as envisioned by the Prime Minister, India will be on the Moon by 2040.
In his address, Rakesh Bharti Mittal, Chairman, Nehru Siddhant Kendra Trust, said, “We have always been deeply aware of the urgent need for accessible and quality education in India. We strongly believe that access to quality education is a vital catalyst in laying the foundation for a promising future for our nation.
