Attack on Hinduism in the film ‘Oppenheimer’. Controversy over showing Bhagavad Gita in sex scene
The biopic on Robert Oppenheimer, the mastermind of the world’s first atomic bomb, released on Friday, and the film has taken the box office by storm. Some Indian film lovers have not liked a scene in this film based on Christopher Nolan’s epic. Sharing a press release of Save Culture Save India Foundation, Uday Mahurkar, Information Commissioner, Government of India, said, “One wonders how the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) could clear a film with this scene.
In this controversial scene of the film, Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy) is reading the Bhagavad Gita while having sex.
The press statement of the Save Culture Save India Foundation said that a scene in the film shows a woman making a man recite the Bhagavad Gita loudly while having sex… This should be investigated by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on an urgent basis and those involved should be punished severely.
Oppenheimer is the first R-rated film directed by Christopher Nolan, but India’s censor board gave the film a U/A rating after the studio cut some shots of the sex scene to reduce its length. According to reports, Cuts Studio itself removed these scenes because they did not think that the censor board would allow this scene.
The film has been given excellent ratings by the critics. In his review for NDTV, film critic Saibal Chatterjee gave the film 4.5 out of 5 stars and wrote, “Oppenheimer is a masterful combination of testing the limits of human endeavor and ambition”.
