He says that “Lata ji wanted me to do an album in the national language, Hindi, on the compositions of our revered poets or poet-saints. When I started composing and recording this album, I kept it as a secret because I wanted to surprise them after it was all ready. If only! It wouldn’t have been a sad thing.” The project had to be shelved for 2 months after Lataji fell ill and passed away. Baiju goes on to say, “Throughout this performance I felt a deep sense of loss and emptiness. The feeling was their validation, approval, suggestion and praise meant the world to me. Baiju says that Lata ji’s demise has left a deep void, although her father Pt. Hridaynath Mangeshkar expressed happiness listening to the song. Saregama, the presenter of this 10-song album and before him ‘Ya Rabba’, worked with Mangeshkar for over 80 years and three generations of these great composers. and they have a common historical connection.
