Bapatla police seized 21 kg ganja, 12 arrested

Vijayawada: Chirala I Town police on Monday seized 21 kg of ganja worth Rs 2.10 lakh and a motorcycle from 12 people, who were later arrested from Swarn Road.

SP Vakul Jindal said that since the formation of new Bapatla district, the police is keeping an eye on history-sheeters and taking strict action against those selling and transporting ganja. He said that in 2023, a suspicious letter was opened against 156 accused in the ganja case in the district. He said that PD Act has been invoked against four people who were caught in ganja-related cases by repeatedly disobeying the orders of police officials.

Vakul Jindal said that similarly, to understand the harm caused by cannabis at the rural level and to create awareness among them, a program called Sankalpam has been organized in 51 colleges of the district and 315 schools have been organized in every college to explain the harm caused by it. He said that under the programme, a quiz was conducted for the students about the harm caused by cannabis, pledges were administered and certificates were given for a cannabis-free college.
More importantly, those who voluntarily come forward using ganja will be identified as victims and will be counseled by expert doctors, otherwise those who become addicted to ganja will be identified as defendants.
