Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika remembered on his death anniversary
Biswanath: The death anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika was observed as Integrity Day in the border area of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. A large number of people were present in the program organized by Pabhoi unit of All Assam Students Union.
Pabhoi unit of All Assam Students Union organized an event to celebrate Integrity Day in the memory of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika on his 12th death anniversary. The participants paid tribute to the renowned artist and many of his works were displayed.
It may be noted that the place where the event was organized on the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border is a meeting point of many cultures as people from many tribes reside in this area. The event was organized at the playground on the campus of Dalanguri Higher Secondary, Biswanath.
A huge cultural rally was also organized on this occasion. This rally was flagged off by famous social worker Akan Saikia. Officials and workers of All Assam Students Union greeted the dignitaries present on the occasion of the program. Local artistes performed Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s popular song “Manuhe Mahuhor Baba” in multiple languages including Bodo, Garo, Karbi, Tea Tribes, Adivasi, Oriya, Nepali, Munda, Santali, Parja, Bhojpuri and Bengali. Apart from these languages, more than 100 people had gathered to sing songs in Assamese.
The Department of Cultural Affairs, on behalf of the State Government, organized a memorial program with a memorial service and all-religion prayer meeting at Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Samadhi area, Jalukbari, where Minister Bimal Bora paid tribute to the maestro. AASU paid its tribute. On Sunday morning, Ustad himself unveiled the statue of Ustad at Dighlipukhuri. Later in the evening, AASU, along with various fans, important people, artists, students and others, lit 10,000 earthen lamps in his memory at Dighlipukhuri Par. On this occasion, artist Kailash Rabha played evergreen songs of Sudhakanth on his saxophone, which mesmerized the people.
