Bhopal: Clash between student groups in university, 10 injured
Bhopal: Two groups of students clashed at Rajiv Gandhi Technological University (RGPV) on Airport Road on Friday afternoon, in which 10 students were reported injured, police said. The police also intervened and argued with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) members.
Prabhat, one of the injured students, told police that he had walked out of the university after giving an exam when his friends told him that several other students from another group wanted to beat him up. He said he immediately informed the police who reached the spot. His rivals beat him in front of the police but the police did not take any action. His friend Nadeem and nine others tried to intervene, who were also beaten up by the rival group. The university administration closed the university at 3 pm.
RGPV director Vinay Thapar said that the hearing of the case will be held on the next working day. Sources said ABVP members took cognizance of the incident and pulled up the police over inaction. Gandhi Nagar police station house officer (SHO) Praveen Tripathi said that investigation is underway in the matter.
CM filed nomination but contested elections for formality
Although he had filed nomination for the post of Vice President of the Wrestling Federation of India, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, who was involved in state affairs, contested the WFI elections only as a formality. How non-serious he was regarding the federation elections can be gauged from the fact that Yadav, an avid wrestler himself, did not come to cast his vote. He lost the election. After the WFI results were declared in New Delhi on Thursday, there were reports in several newspapers and TV channels on Friday that Yadav had lost the WFI elections. The federation elections were scheduled to be held in August, but the Punjab and Haryana High Court had ordered a stay on the process. Yadav had filed nomination for the WFI elections, but did not withdraw his nomination.
Meanwhile, assembly elections started in the state in November and after the results, Mohan Yadav was made the Chief Minister of the state. He did not have time to pay attention to the WFI elections. The special thing is that he himself could not go to the elections and cast his vote. He got only five votes and thus lost the election.
