BJD complains to CEO over MCC violation by Balasore MP
Bhubaneswar: The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Monday complained to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) against Balasore MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi, accusing him of violating the model code of conduct.
A BJD delegation led by Rajya Sabha MP Sasmit Patra submitted a memorandum to the CEO alleging that the Balasore MP, with the help of some contractors, had installed solar panels at various locations in Nachinda and Aruhuabrutty gram panchayats under Bhograi block of the district on March 31. BJD alleged that Sarangi did this to woo voters from these areas as he has been re-nominated from Balasore Lok Sabha seat for the upcoming elections. The party demanded strict action against Sarangi, alleging that he had threatened villagers if he told them about the installation of solar power.
BJD leaders claimed that despite opposition from local villagers, some contractors appointed by Sarangi installed solar lights in these areas. They demand a thorough investigation into this matter.
