BMC successfully launches first girder for Gokhale Bridge in Andheri
Mumbai: BMC successfully launched the first girder of Gokhale Bridge in Andheri on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, which is an important step towards the completion of the bridge. According to BMC, important work is going to be done in the next fifteen days after the girder launch.
Who was present during the launching
BMC aims to open one arm of the bridge by February 15. BJP MLA Ameet Satam, UBT Shiv Sena MLA Rutuja Latke and BMC officials were present during the girder launching work, which is considered a challenging task, especially when done above the railway. Railways appointed M/s RITES as consultants to monitor the girder launching and provided various blocks for the process.

As of Sunday morning, BMC reported that 75 per cent of the girder had been successfully launched, with the remaining 25 per cent pending. The girder will be rotated 14 meters to the north before being lowered 7.5 meters and permanently fixed. Railways has sanctioned a mega block of three hours per day for eleven nights for girder work, which will lead to a reduction of 550 mm per night.
BMC praised for quick progress
BJP MLA Ameet Satam praised BMC for the rapid progress on Gokhale bridge. BMC purchased two strong girders from Ambala, Haryana and the assembly work was done in the eastern part of Andheri.

Railways had demolished the entire old Gokhale bridge and handed over the land to BMC on March 28, 2023. Reconstruction began in April 2023. Further work will be carried out including lowering the girder by 7.5 meters and turning it towards the north. Done under the guidance of M/s RITES Consulting Firm.
