BMC to construct two 27-storey buildings, parks and amenities for employees in Deonar village
Mumbai: BMC is going to build two buildings of 20 floors for its staff. The project will also provide facilities of park, playground, parking and jogging track. According to the official, buildings will be constructed for BMC officials and employees and houses of 300 and 500 square feet will be constructed. BMC is going to spend around Rs 412.64 crore on the construction of the building.
Tenders have been invited
The official also said that tenders have been invited. “Once the contractors are appointed, we will decide how many flats need to be built in each building,” the official said.
About one lakh employees work in BMC. There are many infrastructure projects underway in Mumbai, including road widening, construction of recreational grounds, construction of hospitals, road widening and construction of bridges. BMC is constructing houses to shift the project affected people and has started its work. BMC needs 74,000 houses for project affected people in Mumbai; Out of that, 2,113 houses have been received from MHADA, MMRDA and other state authorities. BMC itself has constructed 3,091 houses under PAP. Before 2023, BMC needed 35,000 houses, but in 2023 this number reached 74,000.
600 houses
Apart from this, BMC is also constructing housing for its employees. According to this, BMC is going to construct two 27-storey buildings, known as ‘600 Tenements’, in Deonar village. The total area is 8,746.90 square meters.
Earlier in the month of November, in another case, local residents of Mulund had opposed the construction of about ten thousand houses in Mulund. BJP worker Mayura Banavalikar had launched a campaign to stop the project. The building was going to be constructed on an open plot near Kelkar College. Such a huge project will put pressure on the already weak infrastructure in Mulund suburb. This contract was awarded controversially by the previous MVA government with huge price payment. The citizens of Mulund are committed to not allowing any mega project in their area.
