Bodies of 13 people killed in firing brought to Imphal, 11 identified
Imphal: The bodies of 13 people killed in an alleged ambush by a terrorist group in Tengnoupal district were brought to the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal for post-mortem on Monday night. The alleged attack was carried out by suspected Kuki terrorists in Lithao village under Machi police station in Tengnoupal district on Monday afternoon. According to the police, so far 11 of the 13 dead have been identified and the youngest two victims are 17 years old, while the eldest is a 47-year-old man.
Police also said that all the identified victims were from Imphal Valley. Of the 11 identified dead, 4 are from Imphal East, 2 from Imphal West, 3 from Bishnupur, 1 each from Thoubal and Kakching. The post-mortem of the remaining two is being conducted by the Forensic Department, JNIMS and they will be identified soon. Meanwhile, security forces have been deployed on the JNIMS campus to avoid any untoward incident and prevent any kind of crowding. Family members of the victims strongly condemned the incident and expressed disappointment at the state government for failing to protect the lives of the youth. They are even issuing a statement related to the incident.
