Buffalo dies in tiger attack, villagers in panic
Bilaspur. A buffalo and its calf died due to tiger attack in the core zone of Achanakmar Tiger Reserve. This incident took place near Budhwa Nala near Sata Pani Beat No. 189-190 of Chhaparwa village. As soon as the information of the incident was received, forest department officials reached the spot and confirmed the tiger’s pugmarks. Two days ago, at around 4 am, a tiger attacked a buffalo and its calf in Chhaparwa village.
Both died. The buffalo’s owner and Gram Panchayat Chhaparwa’s Sarpanch Manoj Yadav informed the Achanakmar Tiger Reserve (ATR) management about this incident. After this, SDO, Ranger and Assistant Range Officer reached the spot and took stock of the situation and identified the tiger’s pugmarks.
Continuous efforts are being made for the conservation and promotion of tigers in Achanakmar Tiger Reserve. In the recent census, 10 tigers have been confirmed in the reserve. Tigers are constantly hunting in search of food, due to which there is an atmosphere of panic in the area. From the footprints found in Sata Pani Beat, it is feared that there may be more than one tiger in this area. After the incident, the officials have installed trap cameras on the spot so that the movements of the tigers can be monitored. SDO Sanjay Luther confirmed the incident and said that such incidents are happening continuously and the victims are being provided compensation as per the rules. The purpose of installing trap cameras is to understand the exact number of tigers and their activities.
