Calcutta: Body of a fourth year student of IIT Kharagpur found hanging from a noose in the hostel

West Bengal. West Bengal: The body of a fourth-year student of IIT Kharagpur was found hanging in her hostel room on Monday, police said. The student has been identified as Devika Pillai (21), a senior police official told PTI. “The student was found hanging from the ceiling of the hostel building. Whether it is a case of suicide or something else is yet to be ascertained. We have started a probe into the death,” the IPS officer said.

The body has been sent to Kharagpur Sub-Divisional Hospital for post-mortem, the official said.

Confirming the news, a source in IIT Kharagpur said Pillai, a fourth-year student of the Department of Biotechnology, was found hanging from the ceiling of the Sarojini Naidu hostel hall in the morning.

When asked if it was a case of suicide, the source said, “We informed the police and they brought down the body. We can give you more details whenever the post-mortem report is shared with us.” The police officer said that Pillai, a native of Kerala, was a fourth year student.
