Can’t allow our sea routes to be used to transport drugs: Amit Shah
Bengaluru (IANS) | Declaring war on drugs, Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said the fight against drugs would be successful only when it is taken to the people. Addressing a regional convention of southern states titled ‘Drugs smuggling and national security’ here, Shah said, “Our sea routes should not be allowed to be used for transportation of narcotics. The Navy and the police of some states will have to intervene.
The Home Minister said that many ships traveling between Pakistan and Iran are often loaded with narcotics, which are supplied from Sri Lanka to the US. This has to be stopped, Shah insisted, otherwise we cannot stop drugs from entering India.
Shah said, “We cannot take this matter lightly. If the drug, whoever is selling it, is not destroyed, it will be sold here. Our aim is to weaken drug peddlers anywhere in the world.” Should be.” The Home Minister also said that he was pained that the provisions of the NDPS Act were not being fully utilized by the states.
He said, I appeal to all the states and concerned departments to unite in the campaign against drugs, other intoxicants, culprits and addiction. Timely response is the need of the hour. Shah said that though tackling the drug menace is the primary responsibility of the Home Ministry, other departments like revenue, social welfare, education and culture should join hands with the health department to eliminate this menace.
Shah also warned the states to be careful about seized drugs as the Home Ministry is getting information that drugs are being stolen from police custody at some places. On the occasion, Shah gave the go-ahead to destroy 9,298 kg of seized drugs worth Rs 1,235 crore.
