CBI reveals how Safdarjung Hospital’s neurosurgeon extorted crores of rupees from patients
CBI has again clamped down on neurosurgeon Manish Rawat at Safdarjung Hospital. Neurosurgeon Manish Rawat is accused of amassing disproportionate assets. In the new FIR, apart from Rawat, his wife Khushboo has also been made an accused. Both are accused of accumulating illegal assets worth at least Rs 2.4 crore. Investigation revealed that the couple had Rs 3.39 crore and their expenditure was Rs 1.16 crore.
Doctor’s wife also came under investigation
The CBI says that he acquired assets worth Rs 4.63 crore. Which includes five immovable properties in Noida (UP) and Haldwani (Uttarakhand) worth Rs 3.47 crore, investment of about Rs 48 lakh in companies and firms. At the same time, during the investigation, jewelery worth Rs 69 lakh was also found in a locker. The doctor’s wife Khushbu Rawat is one of the directors and partners and has invested Rs 17.5 lakh in insurance policies.
70.85% disproportionate assets disclosed
The FIR, lodged on Friday, alleges that Rawat “knowingly enriched himself illegally” and amassed assets worth Rs 2.40 crore in his name as well as in his wife’s name, which was 70.85% more than the couple’s known sources of income. Neurosurgeon arrested for extorting money from patients
Earlier, Manish Rawat was arrested in Safdarjung Hospital along with some middlemen and people for taking bribes from patients and extorting money from them illegally in the name of treatment. In March this year, the CBI raided and arrested 5 people of the gang, including a neurosurgeon. Dr. Mahesh Rawat is an associate professor in the neurosurgery department of Safdarjung Hospital.

Big money in the name of surgery from patients who came for treatment
According to the CBI, a complaint was received that Dr. Manish Rawat, along with some of his close aides Avnesh Patel, Manish Sharma, owner of Kanishk Surgical, Deepak Kartar and Kuldeep, an employee of Deepak Surgical, in a criminal conspiracy, were taking money from the patients who had come for treatment in the name of providing medical advice and performing surgeries by flouting the rules of the hospital. During investigation, it was revealed that Dr. Manish used to advise patients to get instruments for surgery from Kanishk Surgical of Deepak Kartar and when the patients went there to collect the equipment, they were given these instruments. They are given at very high prices. Dr. Manish used to get a lot of money out of this.
Extorted money on the pretext of getting appointment and surgery done soon
Along with this, it was revealed in the investigation that on the instructions of Dr. Manish, Avnesh Patel used to contact the attendants of the patients and told them that if they pay bribe, they will get the appointment of Dr. Manish or if they want an early date of surgery, then they will also get it. Avnesh used to give the money received from the patients to Manish Sharma and Kuldeep, the employees of Deepak Khandar or transfer it to their bank accounts. It was also learned that recently Rs 1,15,000, 30,000 and 25 thousand rupees have been taken from three patients. This money is further being transferred to the bank account of the companies of Ganesh Chandra, a resident of Bareilly, which later Dr. Manish used to get back.
According to the CBI, middleman Avnesh Patel transferred Rs 1 lakh to Dr Manish for a recent Kerala tour. Sent 19 thousand rupees through QR code for his wife’s saree. The CBI had arrested Dr. Manish Rawat, Avnesh Patel, Manish Sharma, Deepak Khattar and Kuldeep by conducting raids at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, besides some other places and in Uttar Pradesh.
