Pakistan’s Finance Ministry said in a statement, the government has increased the prices of petrol by Rs 26.02 to Rs 331.38 per liter and diesel by Rs 17.34 to Rs 329.18 per liter.
Ever since the caretaker government took over power in the country after the end of Shahbaz Sharif’s tenure, both petrol and diesel have become costlier by 20 percent in Pakistan. This is the second big increase since August 15, 2023. Within a month, the combined increase in petrol and diesel in Pakistan has become Rs 58.43 and Rs 55.83 per liter respectively. According to Dawn report, the latest increase in the prices of Petrol and High Speed Diesel has been announced by the Finance Ministry after the approval of Acting Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar. The ministry has said that due to the increase in petroleum prices in the international market, the government has decided to revise the current prices of petroleum products. After this decision, the ex-depot price of high speed diesel has been fixed at Rs 329.18 per liter with an increase of Rs 17.34 or 5.6 percent instead of the current Rs 311.84. At the same time, the retail price at the petrol pump will be much above Rs 330 per liter.

It is mostly used in heavy transport vehicles, trains and agricultural engines and as its price increases, transportation becomes expensive and especially the prices of vegetables and other food items increase.
