CG Assembly Elections: Bharatpur-Sonhat seat becomes VIP due to entry of Union Minister Renuka Singh in the fray
Ambikapur: Many times in politics, the status of a politician makes the assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies important. Something similar is the case with Bharatpur-Sonhat assembly constituency of Chhattisgarh. From here, BJP has made Union Minister Renuka Singh its candidate, due to which this assembly constituency is being counted as a high profile seat.
Assembly elections are going to be held in Chhattisgarh in two phases. Voting is to be held here on November 7 and 17. One of the high profile seats of the state is Bharatpur-Sonhat. Here BJP’s Renuka Singh is contesting against Congress MLA Gulab Kamaron. Congress has fielded Kamal as its candidate for the second time.
There is a direct contest between Congress and BJP in Bharatpur-Sonhat assembly constituency. Gondwana Gantantra Party can make it triangular. This assembly constituency came into existence in 2003 by separating from Mahendragarh assembly constituency and till now three assembly elections have been held here in which BJP has won twice and Congress once.
Along with this, Gondwana Gantantra Party also has influence in this assembly constituency and we can understand this from the last elections. Gongpa got more than 9000 votes in the 2008 assembly elections. In the 2013 election, more than 18,000 votes were received and in the 2018 election, more than 26,000 votes were received. In this way, Gongpa can also make the contest triangular. Gond caste voters are capable of changing the equation here. This is why Congress and BJP are eyeing this vote bank and want to break into it.
With Renuka Singh contesting from Bharatpur-Sonhat assembly constituency, everyone’s eyes are on the victory and defeat of the constituency. Congress is trying to make this election local versus outsider and the Congress candidates are trying to portray the BJP candidate as outsider. Whereas Renuka Singh is contesting the elections with the claim of development.
Political analysts believe that Renuka Singh’s entry into the fray has given rise to a new debate in the politics of BJP in the state. This is because there is talk of him being a contender for the post of Chief Minister if BJP comes into majority.
