Chandigarh: The UT Excise Department has started cracking down on liquor smuggling in the city. The department’s teams conducted surprise checks at various shops in the city after receiving information. During this check, liquor without holograms was seized from shops in Sector 34 and 43. 1,056 bottles of foreign liquor without permit were seized from both the shops and challans were issued to both the shops. The department has formed a team for surprise checks in the city which will keep an eye on liquor shops, clubs and bars. This surprise check will continue from time to time. According to Excise Department officials, strict action will be taken against those smuggling liquor from the city.
