Chandigarh: Man caught with banned injection gets 15 years jail
Chandigarh: A local court has sentenced 34-year-old Rohit Kumar, a resident of Bapu Dham Colony in Sector 26, to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and imposed a fine of Rs 1.50 lakh after finding him guilty in a case under the NDPS Act. On the complaint of ASI Mohinder Kumar, the police had registered a case against the accused under section 22 of the Act two years ago. The complainant said that on March 19, 2022, he along with other policemen were patrolling the area under the Bapu Dham Colony police post, when they saw the accused near the Kinnar Mandir with a white polythene bag.
On seeing them, the accused turned back and started running fast. On suspicion, he was caught. When the police checked the polythene bag he had, 15 injections of Buprenorphine and 15 of Avid were found in it. Police claimed that during interrogation, the accused revealed that he had purchased the banned injections from Najibabad, UP. The police claimed that the accused is a habitual offender as he has been involved in four similar cases earlier. However, the accused’s lawyer denied the allegations and said that the accused has been falsely implicated in the case. On the other hand, public prosecutor Sunil Dutt argued that the prosecution has proved the charges against the accused. After hearing the arguments, the court sentenced the accused to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 22 of the NDPS Act. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1.50 lakh on him.
