Chandigarh News: Relief from heat in Chandigarh, 67.90% voting
Chandigarh: With 67.90 per cent polling, the fate of 19 candidates including main contenders Sanjay Tandon of BJP and Manish Tewari of Congress was decided today. Despite the scorching heat, voters turned up in large numbers to elect their new representative in Parliament. Colonies and villages including Dhanas, Maloya, Dadu Majra, Sarganpur, Khuda Ali Sher, Ram Darbar, Hallo Majra, Dariya and Mauli Jagan witnessed heavy crowds since morning.
Voters started queuing up at some polling stations as early as 4 am. At many places, the queues were more than 500 metres long. The police had to struggle hard to manage the crowd till 7 am. As the day progressed and the heat increased, it became difficult for voters to wait in the queue. They had to stay in the scorching sun for two hours. There were also reports of people fainting at several polling stations.
