Chandigarh: Police caught law graduate on drug smuggling charges
The Crime Branch of UT Police has arrested a law graduate for allegedly possessing 22 grams of heroin. Three vehicles and Rs 95 thousand were also recovered from their possession. Police claimed that the suspect was an associate of a drug smuggler who had links with Pakistan-based smugglers.
The suspect has been identified as Sukhpreet Singh (29) alias Pardeep, a resident of Mansa, Punjab. Police said they had earlier caught a smuggler named Gagan, who during interrogation revealed that he used to receive drug consignments on the instructions of Sukhpreet and Resham Singh. Then the consignment was handed over to both of them. Crime branch officials said each consignment contained around 8 kg of heroin. Gagan was paid Rs 2-3 lakh per consignment by Resham, police said. He told that during the lockdown, Sukhpreet came in contact with Resham and got involved in drug trade. “As per his disclosure, the drug syndicate leader Resham has links with Pakistan-based smugglers,” police said.
