Charging Rhino chases Safari Jeep
Guwahati: Tourists on a safari adventure through the beautiful Manas National Park in Assam had a thrilling and somewhat harrowing experience on November 5 as they had a narrow escape from an adult rhinoceros. The incident came to light when a safari jeep carrying a group of tourists from Dhubri was chased by the powerful rhinoceros. The charging animal drove the vehicle at high speed, and sped away from the impending danger. The jeep eventually overturned and crashed amid the chase.
Incredibly, despite the heart-breaking events, no injuries were reported among the lucky tourists who walked away from the encounter unharmed. Sources say that the incident took place in the Bashbari range within the national park, causing a wave of panic in the surrounding area. In light of this disturbing incident, officials are issuing cautionary advisories to tourists, urging them to exercise vigilance and care when visiting the natural habitats of these formidable creatures.
It is a known behavior of rhinos, including those in wildlife sanctuaries of Assam, to display aggression, especially towards white vehicles. This behavior has led to many similar incidents, highlighting the importance of understanding and respecting the natural behavior of these animals. A comparable episode involving a charging rhinoceros occurred in Kaziranga National Park. As a result, local authorities have offered guidance to visitors, recommending the use of dark-coloured vehicles as camouflage when crossing wildlife habitats. This strategy aims to minimize the chances of provoking or attracting attention to these majestic but formidable creatures, ensuring an exciting and safe experience for all wildlife enthusiasts.
