CHENNAI: Flood warning in surrounding areas due to rising water level in Cauvery river

Chennai: A flood warning has been issued for people living along the banks of the Cauvery river as the water flow in the river increased from 1.41 lakh cubic feet last night to 1.55 lakh cubic feet this morning following heavy rains, Thanthi TV reported.

In response, the release of additional water from dams in Karnataka has been increased to 1.66 lakh cubic feet, and is expected to increase further. This has led to flooding of the Hogenakkal waterfalls, which has remained closed for bathing for the 13th consecutive day. Meanwhile, people living along the river banks have been advised to exercise caution and follow safety guidelines issued by local authorities in view of the flood warning.
