Chennai Metro trains will run every 7 minutes during non-peak hours from Monday
Chennai: Keeping in mind the increase in patronage in Chennai Metro Rail, train services will run every seven minutes from Monday during non-peak hours in both Corridors 1 and 2 of the Phase 1 service.
“This will reduce congestion and waiting time for passengers taking metro services,” a Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) statement said.
Earlier, trains were operating every nine minutes during non-peak hours. However, due to the huge increase in the number of passengers, the department has decided to reduce the frequency of the train to every seven minutes from Monday.
Meanwhile, CMRL recorded 85.50 lakh passengers in October, a marginal increase from 84.37 lakh in September.
In September, the transit service saw an increase of more than 5 lakh in ridership compared to previous months. About 61.12 lakh passengers availed the Metro Rail service in the particular month. Whereas in August this number was 56.66 lakh.
Subsequently, data showed that the average daily passenger count in Chennai Metro Rail has increased to 2.75 lakh passengers per day compared to two lakh passengers at the beginning of the year.
S Harish, a regular passenger, said, “Increasing the frequency is a big boost for the public who choose to take the metro service. Since there is frequency freedom, passengers can now travel more comfortably and faster by not having to wait and crowd in trains. ” In metro rail.
