Chennai: Rainfall activity likely over delta and south Tamil Nadu
Chennai: The Regional Meteorological Center (RMC) on Friday predicted moderate rain in some areas of the delta and southern districts of Tamil Nadu for the next two days due to easterly winds. As minimum temperatures drop in different parts of Tamil Nadu, there is a possibility of frost on the ground in Nilgiris district during night time.
A trough in easterly winds from South Interior Karnataka to Central Chhattisgarh now extends up to 0.9 km above mean sea level from South Interior Karnataka to East Vidarbha through North Interior Karnataka and Marathwada.
Furthermore, a cyclonic circulation over the Southeast Arabian Sea and adjacent equatorial Indian Ocean is now observed up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.
Under its influence, light to moderate rain is likely over the delta and south Tamil Nadu including Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Thanjavur, Ariyalur and Pudukottai for the next 48 hours. Dry weather is likely to prevail over the rest of the state in the coming days.
The Meteorological Department has issued a fog/haze warning for different parts of Tamil Nadu as the maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to drop due to easterly winds. For Chennai and suburbs, the temperature is likely to remain around 31 degrees Celsius and 21 degrees Celsius at Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam weather centers for the next two days.
