Chennai: Two arrested including woman on fraud charges

Chennai: The city police on Saturday arrested two people, including a woman, for defrauding a businessman of Rs 86 lakh by promising him a loan of Rs 25 crore to expand his business.

The second accused is a serial offender who was previously arrested for a similar crime.

The complainant, B Krishnakumar (43) of Kodungaiyur, runs a logistics company. He has approached Muthuvel of Villivakkam to arrange a loan of Rs 25 crore.

Muthuvel took Rs 86 lakh in three installments, but never arranged for the loan. When the businessman asked for the money back from Muthuvel, he avoided it following which a police complaint was lodged.

Nandambakkam police on Saturday arrested Muthuvel alias Lion Muthuvel (45) and his partner Angelina Christie Nisha (43).

Both of them were produced before the magistrate and sent to judicial custody.
