Kharna fasting method
Kharna is the second day of Chhath festival. Kharna is celebrated on the fifth day of Kartik month. On this day, not even a single drop of water is drunk before sunset. On the day of Kharna, Prasad is made on the stove. Kheer and Puri are made as Prasad. This Prasad contains neither sugar nor salt. The devotees observe a waterless fast throughout the day and eat only once in the evening. During dinner, the fasting person eats Prasad while alone. Also, care is taken that there is no noise. After Kharna, the devotees observe Nirjala fast for 36 hours.
Importance of Chhath Puja
There is a tradition of worshiping Lord Surya and Chhathi Maiya in Chhath Puja. It is believed that those who observe Nirjala fast for 36 hours during this great festival and perform puja as per the rituals, get the happiness of children, better health of their children, strength and radiance like the sun. It is said that this festival was first started by Suryaputra Karna by worshiping the Sun. According to tradition, he worshiped the Sun by staying in water for hours.
