Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: CSMC removed encroachment on Seven Hills
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) on Wednesday removed encroachment in Seven Hills area and permanently removed 17 roadside huts.
Some vendors had set up huts on Seven Hills Road across from Gajanan Maharaj Temple, where they were staying for several months and selling various products. These vendors created inconvenience to the moving traffic and pedestrians by depositing a lot of garbage on the road. The presence of these huts also led to many accidents. Despite warnings, the vendors refused to vacate the area and even threatened the CSMC anti-encroachment squad with self-immolation if they were removed.
In response, Municipal Corporation Commissioner and Administrator G Srikanth reviewed the encroachments on the city roads and directed Additional Commissioner Saurabh Joshi and Deputy Commissioner Mangesh Devre to remove encroachments from the roads.
As part of the initiative, Devare and assistant commissioner Prasad Deshpande had directed vendors on Seven Hills Road a month ago to remove encroachments themselves, but there was no compliance.
After this, under the strict supervision of the police, the anti-encroachment squad removed the huts from the roads on Wednesday. Initially facing opposition from the encroachment holders, Devare and Jawaharnagar police station’s PI Vyankatesh Kendre successfully convinced them, leading to the permanent removal of the huts. Vendors were allowed to withdraw their goods before the action was taken.
Similarly, encroachments in front of book and article sellers and three nurseries from Gajanan Maharaj Road were also removed.
The operation was carried out by Prasad Deshpande, Inspector Syed Jamshed, Sagar Shrestha and others.
