Chhattisgarh receives another national award for its outstanding achievements in the field of energy conservation
Raipur: The Chhattisgarh State Renewable Energy Development Agency (CREDA) was awarded the Star Performance Award for the best performance at the national level in the field of energy conservation at a function held in New Delhi. The award was conferred at the 8th National Energy Management Awards ceremony organized by the Society of Energy Engineers and Managers – SEEM on September 21. Chief Executive Officer, Chhattisgarh State Renewable Energy Development Agency (CREDA),Shri Alok Katiyar received this award in the presence of Dr. Ashok Kumar, Deputy Director General, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Government of India. On behalf of CREDA, Mr. Sanjeev Jain, Chief Engineer and Mr. Rajeev Gyani, Superintending Engineer were present. Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel has congratulated the CREDA team and the people of the state for this achievement.
It is noteworthy that, CREDA has won the National Award by SEEM for best performance in the field of energy conservation for three consecutive years (2020-2022) as a state-nominated agency. Over the past 11 years, the Chhattisgarh State Renewable Energy Development Agency (CREDA) has made significant strides in energy conservation and efficiency in the state. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Government of India, launched the PAT project in two phases. In total, 44 industrial institutions in the state have reduced carbon emissions by 6.67 million tonnes and saved 2.198 million tonnes of oil equivalent (MTO) of energy. As a result of the project, industries in the state have been awarded over 10 lakh energy-saving certificates by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). The state government of Chhattisgarh has taken several measures to promote energy conservation in the commercial and residential building sector. In order to achieve this objective, the government has notified the Chhattisgarh Energy Conservation Building Code. As a result, 15 buildings in the state have been certified as green buildings. Additionally, a proposal to designate 8 government buildings with star ratings is forwarded to the Central Government. To make the residential projects of the state energy-efficient, the government has adopted energy-efficient building construction techniques under ECO NIWAS Samhita. To raise awareness about these techniques, CREDA has organized more than 150 awareness programs for engineers and architects. These continuous efforts aim to make the buildings in the state more energy-efficient.
In order to promote the use of energy-efficient appliances in rural areas, a total of 77 villages have been transformed into model energy-efficient villages. Similarly, 56 health centres have been developed as model energy-efficient health centres, and 376 government schools have been converted into model energy-efficient government schools. To increase awareness among school students about energy conservation, CREDA has formed Energy Clubs in 603 schools with a target to form Energy Clubs in over 1,000 educational institutions in the coming year.
In an effort to promote energy conservation in the agricultural sector, CREDA has organized multidimensional awareness workshops for farmers. These workshops have educated farmers in all Krishi Vigyan Kendras of the state about the benefits of using energy-efficient pumps to save both energy and money. CREDA continues to strive towards promoting the use of energy-efficient equipment in the government offices and institutions of the state, with the aim of reducing electricity consumption.
