Child dies after consuming expired medicine in Odisha’s Gajapati

Gajapati: An 11-month-old child died after consuming expired medicine allegedly given by the Anganwadi center in Jajpur village of Odisha’s Gajapati district.

According to reports, the deceased fell ill after consuming expired medicines supplied by the Anganwadi center in the village on April 11. He was cured after the treatment, and a few days later he became serious again.

The parents of the minor took the baby to several hospitals including Parlakhemundi district headquarters hospital (DHH), a Vishakhapatnam-based hospital, AIIMS in Bhubaneswar, and Sishu Bhawan in Cuttack. But their all efforts went in vain.

He breathed his last night while undergoing treatment at the Sishu Bhawan in Cuttack.

Demanding action against the Anganwadi worker and ASHA activist, the villagers and family members blocked the road, disrupting the traffic between Parlakhemundi and Mohana on Tuesday morning.

The family members of the child have filed a complaint at the local police station. Based on the complaint, the cops have launched a probe into the matter.
