Chris Woakes has been a boon for England: Brad Hogg
New Delhi (IANS). Former Australian spinner Brad Hogg believes the turning point for England came with the inclusion of fast bowler Chris Woakes in the last three Ashes Tests, as his presence had a significant impact on the team’s performance.
The result of the Ashes series played between Australia and England ended in a 2-2 draw. There was a time when the English team was trailing 0-2 in the series, but in the last three matches, England made a great comeback. The biggest role in this was of Chris Woakes.
Woakes got a chance to play in only three of the five Test matches. His performance in those three matches played a key role in the team’s victory. On the final day of the series, Woakes brought England back into the match by dismissing both Australian openers.
Brad Hogg said on his YouTube channel, “I thought the inclusion of Chris Woakes in the last three Tests was the change that paved the way for England. He dominated with 19 wickets and most of them were top six batsmen. “
England faced severe criticism for their approach in the first two Tests. However, as the series progressed, he stuck to his natural style of play, while also displaying a better understanding of his game plan which helped them draw the series 2–2.
Hogg believed that England played better cricket in the five-match series. He said that their plans were much better than Australia’s. Ben Stokes was brilliant with his aggressive style of play. He backs his players, and if you back your players, you get results. By doing so, England played better cricket throughout the series, they were the better team, no doubt about it.
